Etsy blocked my shop for over a month — a business verification loop and what helped

A Verification Failed loop, weeks of support replies and reinstatement after a KRS extract was accepted. One shop’s experience, not a guaranteed solution.

  6. Summary

From early September until 11 October 2026, the CopperAndCraft shop on Etsy was invisible to buyers and unable to accept new orders. The reason was not a breach of selling policies, but a technical loop in the business verification process (KYB/UBO). For weeks, the standard support replies changed nothing. Only a formal letter and the submission of a Polish National Court Register (KRS) extract moved the case forward.

This is not a guide to “always getting your shop reinstated”. It is an account of one specific incident affecting an established shop with years of trading history, mainly selling to the USA.

What happened

The Etsy dashboard displayed “Business info – Verification Failed”. The details of PREC-METAL Sp. z o.o., a Polish limited liability company — its KRS registration, tax number, address and owners — were entered in accordance with the official register. Yet clicking Verify immediately returned the status to “Verification Failed”, without ever changing to Pending. A new verification attempt was not starting at all.

The shop was put into Vacation Mode. Listings disappeared from search, new orders could not be placed, and payouts for earlier transactions were held. The restriction lasted from approximately 5 September to 11 October 2026.

CopperAndCraft was not a new test shop. According to Etsy Shop Manager data for 2018–2026, it had generated approximately US$1.34 million in revenue, received more than 3,700 orders and held a rating of 4.9/5. Most sales were to the USA.

How support responded

For many weeks, the replies repeated the same instructions:

  • “Check your details and submit them again”
  • “Make sure everything matches your documents”
  • “Click the Confirm info banner”

There was no analysis of why the form was failing to initiate another check. Support agents referred the case to “specialists”, but the same instructions came back. Only after escalation was the technical loop acknowledged.

It is a recurring pattern: Etsy often sends standard replies instead of diagnosing a system issue. This is particularly relevant to businesses outside the USA, with company structures such as Polish limited liability companies, KRS records and ownership percentages that are not whole numbers.

What finally moved the case forward

  1. Repeated, specific escalations describing the loop: the status never changed to Pending.
  2. Submission of a current KRS extract once Etsy finally made the document upload form available.
  3. A formal letter addressed to Etsy Ireland UC, Legal Department, under the EU Platform-to-Business (P2B) Regulation.

The letter was sent by email to legal@etsy.com, dpo@etsy.com and disputeresolution@etsy.com, and by post to Ireland. It cited case #26904050, described the scale of the business and the technical loop, and requested both reinstatement of the shop and consideration of compensation for the restriction period.

The shop was reinstated on 11 October 2026 after the KRS document was accepted. The question of compensation for the lost time and visibility remained unresolved.

What you can do if you face a similar problem

There is no guarantee that these steps will work in every case. Etsy makes its own verification decisions. However, it is worth:

  • Keeping a record of every contact and case number.
  • Describing exactly what happens after clicking Verify, including whether the status changes at all.
  • Preparing a current extract from your business register — KRS or the equivalent — in advance.
  • Considering a formal P2B complaint to Etsy Ireland after a prolonged lack of progress, especially if your business is based in the EU.
  • Not assuming that the Appeals Center is always the correct route when the problem is technical rather than a policy violation.

If you are opening a shop or trading through a company, keep the business name, address and ownership details consistent from the outset. Etsy’s form accepted only whole percentages in my case. With ownership split into 39 and 38 shares out of 77, this required rounding to 51/49 — something support had also confirmed earlier.

How this relates to my work

I have run CopperAndCraft since 2018 and went through this process myself. I know the everyday challenges of selling — descriptions, photography and shipping to the USA — as well as situations where a platform restricts an established shop because of a system issue.

In my Etsy packages at Domin Commerce, I highlight verification risks and the importance of consistent business details. However, recovering suspended accounts is not a service I offer. I cannot guarantee that a similar case will have the same outcome.

Summary

A business verification loop on Etsy can restrict a shop for weeks, even when the details are correct. Standard support often does not resolve a system issue. In my case, a combination of documentation, escalation and a formal P2B letter, together with a KRS extract, helped move things forward.
